Each of us have had ample time to to realize that VCRs are going the way of the dinosaur. But did you know you might have to wave your relatively new DVD recorder goodbye too? Hooking up an ATSC-only cable or satellite box — or for that matter, an ATSC-only HDTV — directly to a NTSC-only DVD or VHS recorder will mean no picture or audio recording at all. So if you intend to incorporate HDTV and/or HD cable or satellite gradually as opposed to being forced into the costly position of upgrading all home theater components simultaneously, the time to look into your options is now.

Disaster preparedness literature advocates stocking necessary medications, but those who are insured and require daily medications to treat asthma, diabetes or other chronic conditions may run into an unexpected and ironic obstacle: Many health insurance companies have no provision in place to allow subscribers to obtain doctor-authorized refills for use in an emergency kit.
